Dawson County continues to see renewed interest in oil activity, with three permits for new drilling operations in Dawson County approved within the past two weeks by the Texas Railroad Commission. One of those permits is for a horizontal oil well in the Welch area and the other two are for injection wells. Yates Industries of Santa Fe, N.M., will drill the Alta 20 No. 2H as a horizontal well about four miles southeast of Welch.
