(AUSTIN) - Representative Tom Craddick, the Texas House’s most senior member, will commemorate his 50th year in office this session.
Craddick, who has served District 82 in six different decades, is the longest serving member in the history of the Texas Legislature. District 82 includes Dawson, Martin, Crane, Midland and Upton counties.
When he was first elected in 1968, Craddick was only one of nine Republicans in the 150-seat House. In 2003, after 34 years in the House, Craddick was Texas’ first Republican speaker of the House in 130 years.
