Although indicating the numbers don’t appear feasible right now to finance construction of a new jail, members of the Dawson County Commissioners Court voted 4-1 Tuesday to move forward with a funding option that basically will buy them some more time before making a final decision.
Members of the court repeatedly emphasized their vote to give notice of intent to issue certificates of obligation to fund a new jail does not in any way mean they intend to do that.
“We’re not actually making a decision,” Precinct 3 Commissioner Nicky Goode said. “We’re just keeping our options open.”
