The much appreciated rainfall that hit Dawson County earlier this week did more than just water the crops.It dropped the county’s Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) rating.The KBDI rating, based upon a zero to 800 ranking, is what fire departments and county officials across the state look at to determine if conditions are dry enough to warrant a burn ban.Dawson County hasn’t been under a burn ban since 2011.County commissioners are the only ones with the authority to implement burn bans in an attempt to decrease the chances of cotton, grassland and wildland fires.Before the rainfall that arrived Monday, stayed Tuesday ...
