County offices here should soon be seeing a big improvement in internet service at a lower cost than the county currently is paying, according to a proposal approved Tuesday by the Dawson County Commissioners Court. Thomas Baker with Stratus, part of Global Data, said a new fiber system will provide internet service at 1,000 megabytes per second at a cost to the county of $7,200. Currently the county is paying $7,702 for internet service through Windstream that is said to be 20-40 megabytes per second, although several county officials said it is much slower than that.
