New electronic voting machines costing more than $183,000 were among expenses totaling around $430,000 which were approved by the Dawson County Commissioners Court during their regular meeting Tuesday.
County Judge Foy O’Brien said the county’s current voting machines have exceeded their life expectancy and need to be replaced.
“This is something we knew was coming,” O’Brien said. New voting machines had been included in this year’s budget.
The total cost, however, wound up being less than anticipated because the county opted to purchase fewer machines than it has had in the past.
