Even with the rain a couple of weeks ago and the drop in early morning temperatures, the county’s Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) rating is on the rise.County and fire department officials keep track of the KBDI numbers to decide whether to implement bans outlawing outdoor burning.Fire Chief Larry Duyck presented those numbers to county commissioners Tuesday.Those numbers, ranging from zero to 800, are based upon an area’s precipitation, and vegetative and soil conditions.Dawson County’s KBDI continues to be the third highest among eight counties local fire department officials monitor.The county’s rating of 430 increased by 22 points within the previous ...
