There’s good news and there’s bad news. The Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) numbers, used in determining the chances of grassland or woodland fires igniting, have slightly increased. The good news is the number of counties across the state under burn bans has diminished.That was what Fire Chief Larry Duyck told county commissioners Monday morning. He updates commissioners during their meetings every two weeks about the state of the county’s KBDI numbers.Those numbers are calculated based upon precipitation, and soil and vegetation conditions.
