It’s official. Lamesa is not having a city general election in November.
Council members canceled the Nov. 3 city election Tuesday when one contender for Marie Briseno’s District 2 seat dropped out of the race.
Lydia Aguilar withdrew from the race Aug. 13. She is moving to Lubbock to start a new job with a trucking company.
That leaves Aguilar’s former challenger, former city manager Fred Vera, as the only contender for the job.
The election was the only item on the city ballot.
