The emergency purchase of basically an all-new elevator for City Hall was approved by the Lamesa City Council on Tuesday.
Saying “this is a most painful purchase,” City Manager Shawna D. Burkhart said the current elevator is no longer able to be repaired.
Although it does currently still work, Burkhart said it is not reliable so it only is being used to assist those with disabilities who cannot climb stairs.
“And then, we just hope and pray it does not stop working while they are inside,” Burkhart told council members.
