As they took steps to begin the budget and tax process for the 2022 fiscal year, members of the Dawson County Commissioners Court on Tuesday expressed hope they will see a change this summer in the county’s financial outlook.
County Judge Foy O’Brien had announced earlier this month that preliminary estimates from the Dawson County Central Appraisal District indicate Dawson County could see a drop of more than 19 percent in taxable property values this year.
At Tuesday’s regular meeting of the commissioners court, both Precinct 4 Commissioner Russell Cox and O’Brien questioned that estimate.
