All non-essential businesses in Lamesa and throughout Dawson County have been ordered to close as of 6 p.m. Saturday (March 28). Those orders came in nearly-identical declarations issued Friday by County Judge Foy O’Brien and Lamesa Mayor Josh Stevens. Stevens, however, said the orders will affect only a small percentage of businesses in Lamesa. “The majority of Lamesa businesses are essential due to agriculture, oilfield and the service industry,” he said. Each business identified as non-essential will receive a letter hand-delivered by either the Lamesa Police Department or Dawson County Sheriff’s Department.
