Except for the fireworks display, all Independence Day festivities planned by the Lamesa Area of Chamber have been cancelled.
Word about the cancellation came on Friday, one day after Gov. Greg Abbott issued an order limiting certain activities as part of the state’s effort to contain a resurgence of COVID-19 in Texas.
Included in that order was a ban on outdoor gatherings of 100 or more people unless approved by local governments, with certain exceptions.
