While urging farmers to learn all they can about the possibilities of growing hemp in West Texas, an official with the Texas Hemp Industries Association also is cautioning producers about making any longterm commitments at this time.
Sheila Hemphill, the association’s executive director, said there are still too many unknowns about the situation despite the state legislature taking action this past spring to legalize growing hemp in Texas.
The Texas Department of Agriculture has been charged with developing rules about growing hemp in Texas but has not yet issued those rules, Hemphill noted.
