In 1950, Lamesa dubbed itself as “The Biggest Little Baseball City in the United States.”
There was good reason for the boast.
Home to the Lamesa Lobos of the West Texas-New Mexico League, the city sported a new 3,500-seat ballpark.
“Lamesa’s total attendance of 100,000 was 10 times its population and more than Amarillo and Albuquerque, the largest cities in the league,” according to well-known baseball writer Gaylon White.
