Governor signs grape law
BROWNFIELD – Grape growers statewide won a quiet but major victory on Tuesday when Governor Greg Abbott signed a grape storage bill into law.
The legislation, filed jointly by Dustin Burrows in the House and Charles Perry in the Senate allows producers to retain ownership of their grapes following harvest.
In the simplest of agriculture terms, this law is akin to a cotton receipt, granted to growers while their commodity sits in a warehouse.
