County officials likely will be facing some of their biggest financial challenges in years as they go through budget discussions for 2022 during the coming months.
That was the message delivered by County Judge Foy O’Brien just before Tuesday’s meeting of the Dawson County Commissioners Court concluded.
O’Brien said the Dawson County Central Appraisal District is estimating the county will see a drop of more than 19 percent in taxable property values this year.
“Right now they’re just estimates,” O’Brien said, noting the final values received during the late summer normally end up 5-10 percent higher than the original estimates.
