The Lamesa City Council is expected to cancel the mayoral election originally scheduled for May 4, but order a special election on that same date for the District 4 council member.
Current Council member Jason Moreno, who was elected to office last May, submitted his resignation this past week, City Secretary Betty Conde said on Friday.
Moreno’s resignation and the required action to conduct a special election to fill that vacancy will be considered at a special called meeting of the City Council this coming Tuesday.
That council meeting will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall, 601 South 1st Street.
