Volunteers and financial donations are now being sought to assist with the annual back-to-school giveaway conducted by the churches of Lamesa. The event has been scheduled for 8 a.m. until 12 noon on Aug. 7 at Second Baptist Church. Paula Simco, who helps coordinate the giveaway, said the event normally provides assistance to about 450 children. “It’s open to students from all the schools in Dawson County,” Simco said. That includes not only the Lamesa school district but also Klondike, Dawson, O’Donnell and Sands. Anyone that needs assistance is welcome. “We don’t check their income or anything.
