Aaron Manuel began his first year of school at Blackshear School along with other African-American students.It was a time when schools throughout the nation were segregated for white students and black students. Blackshear was founded here in 1925 for black students.After he finished sixth grade at Blackshear in 1966, Manuel left the old school to enroll in what was known then as Lamesa Junior High School.“Then, I didn’t notice no difference,” Manuel said about relocating to another school during desegregation. “I didn’t have no problems.
