Southern Idaho is the land of the Jolly Green Giant. The area along the Snake River valley is rich volcanic soil which is well suited for the famous potatoes and more vegetables. It is that volcanic activity that caused the creation of one of the larger national monuments. Following U.S. 93 all the way from Flathead Lake, Montana, we put our Mongolian daughter on a plane going home and traveled through some of the most forested country in the northwest into Salmon Idaho.
