Shirley Kountz

    The family of Shirley Williams Kountz will host a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. 
    A service to celebrate her life of 79 years is scheduled at 9:00 AM on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Lake Ridge Chapel, followed by a graveside service at 3:00 PM in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Ft. Davis, Texas. 
    She passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023. Please visit www.memorialdesigners.net for a service broadcasting schedule, floral purchasing, and an area to share stories of Mrs. Kountz with her family. 
    Shirley Vonn Williams Kountz was born August 17, 1943, to the late Covie and Effie (Cave) Williams in Lamesa, TX. She married Van Kountz on August 25, 1961, at her parent’s home in Ackerly, Texas. Shirley earned her Master’s degree from Texas Tech University and taught for thirty-nine years before retiring.  Following her retirement, she worked for an insurance company, The Gibraltar Group, for ten years.  
    Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lamesa, as well as many teacher organizations. She served as a motivational speaker for many years.
    Mrs. Kountz is survived by her husband, Van Kountz; daughters, Debra (Russell) Leonard, and Sandra (Russell) McCorkle; grandchildren, Rhea Lynn (Kyle) Leonard, Ashley K (Matt) Roche, Weston Caleb (Hailey) Leonard, Ryan George (Jordan) Pease, Amy JaVonn (Nolan) Waggoner, and Austin McCorkle; great-grandchildren, Kollins Rhea Kaufman, Kash Buddy Kaufman, Kaden J Roche, Hudson Reed Roche, Coleman Jett Waggoner, Turner Drew Waggoner, Kate Ryan Waggoner, and Grayson George Pease; and sisters, Dorothy Harry, and Wanda Chapman.
