Santiago Salazar
Santiago L. Salazar, 58, of Lamesa, Texas, passed away January 13, 2023, at his home with his loved ones by his side.
Santiago was born August 5, 1964, in Iraan, Texas to Esteban Salazar and Maria Luisa (Lopez) Salazar. He was a Lamesa High School graduate and later joined the United States Air Force where he served for six years through Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
Upon his discharge from the service, he began his lifelong career in Law Enforcement where he served over thirty years between Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Travis County Constable’s Office, Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, and Dawson County Sheriff’s office – where his watch ended as Constable for Dawson County.
He married Antonia Hernandez. Of that marriage was born his son, Esteban, and daughter, Amanda.
He was known for his good sense of humor, his wonderful cooking skills, and his infectious laugh. He loved camping, golfing, barbecuing, and hosting for numerous family and community gatherings.
Santiago is survived by his children, Esteban Santiago Salazar and Amanda Danielle Kenney and husband, Cameron Wayne Kenney, all of Austin; sisters, Maria Guadalupe Olivares of Lubbock, Maria Luisa Didway and husband Trey Didway of Brownfield; brothers, Esteban Salazar and wife Gina Chapa of Lubbock, Jose Antonio Salazar and wife Yolanda Espinoza of Salado, Rodolfo Salazar and Linda Ashby of Lubbock, and Lorenzo Guadalupe Salazar and wife Antonia Borrego of San Antonio; numerous nieces and nephews; and his Dawson County Sheriff’s family and Dawson County colleagues.
Santiago was preceded in death by his parents.
The family suggests memorials to Angel’s Care Hospice, UMC Cancer Center, and American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Branon Funeral Home. A “Celebration of Life” gathering will be held at a later date.
