Rudy Cortes

    A Catholic funeral mass service will be celebrated for Rodolfo (Rudy) Cortes, age 73, of Lamesa, TX., at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Deacon Daniel Valenzuela officiating. Burial committal will follow to the Dawson County Cemetery.
    The Cortes family requires face mask for the church and funeral home. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home.
    Viewing and visitation have been set for Friday, September 17, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel.
    Rudy passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 16, 2021 in Lamesa, TX.
    He was born on June 1, 1948 in Bloomington, TX.
    Rodolfo was preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe Cortez, Sr. and Celia Cortez; his siblings, Olivia Rivera, Emma Diaz, Lydia Cortez, Lupe Cortez, Elida Guicoza, Dalia Gonzales, Arturo Cortez, Jessie Cortez, Roberto Cortez, Manuel Cortez, Alfredo Cortez, Ramiro Cortez, and Viola Cortez.
    Rodolfo loved God and he knew how much God loved him. He praised His Lord until the very end with dancing and singing. His way of worshiping God was always through music and dancing. Rodolfo was a devout Catholic and loved Our Lady of Guadalupe. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. He gave numerous hours in serving His church, whether helping in funeral meals or annual fish fries. He really enjoyed the annual Jamacia church events. He also belonged to the Crusillo movement.
    Rodolfo is survived by his family, a brother, Lee Cortez, Sr. and sister-in-law, Elvia Cortez of Lamesa, TX.; his sister Carolina Cortez of Lamesa, TX.; his brother-in-law, Emiliano Gonzales, Sr. of Lamesa, TX.; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
