Ronald ‘Lance’ Bailey
Funeral services for Ronald “Lance” Bailey, 54, of Lamesa, will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Lamesa with Pastor Jim Medley officiating.
Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. at East Mound Cemetery, Matador, Texas with Reverend Chuck Harrison officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
Lance passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019 in Lubbock, Texas.
Ronald “Lance” Bailey, son of Ronald G. Bailey and Kay Rattan Bailey, was born in Lubbock, Texas on October 30, 1964. Lance grew up in Eastland, Texas where his football team, the Eastland Mavericks, won state in 1982. Lance graduated Valedictorian of Eastland High School in 1983 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas Tech University in 1987. Lance taught Geography, Government, and Economics at Lamesa High School in Lamesa, Texas for 27 years, impacting countless lives with his kindness and true passion for teaching.
Lance was an avid sports fan and enjoyed announcing sports games for the Lamesa Tornadoes for many years. He also taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church in Lamesa. Lance’s son, Jason Bailey, was born in 1993 and became the light of Lance’s life. Lance married Sherry Wallace Scarborough in 2002 and they shared 14 wonderful years together before she lost her battle with cancer in 2016.
Lance is preceded in death by his grandparents, W.A. Rattan Jr., Frank Price, James T. Johnston, Laverna Murphy Rattan Price Johnston, Inez Clifton Bailey and Welton G. Bailey; his aunts, Marlene Bailey Hamm, Roeita Rattan and Sharlene Barryman Rattan; his uncles, David Rattan and Richard “Dick” Hamm; and one cousin, Duke Hamm.
Lance is survived by his parents, Ronald G. Bailey and Kay Rattan Bailey of Matador; his siblings, Kevin Bailey (and wife, Sherry Bailey) of Lubbock and Andrea Bailey of Eastland; his son, Jason Bailey of Lubbock; his stepchildren, Dru and husband, Tony Wahl, and John Lane Scarborough and wife, Nancy; his grandchildren, Payton, Mae and Brandt; his nephews, Dillon, Kolton, Brant and Sage; his aunt, Marilyn Rattan; and his cousins, David, Cindy, Sandra, Dax, Shane and Garrett.
Lance was a loving Christian, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend to everyone who knew him. He was a gentle giant with a caring heart.
