Ron Mayfield
Services for Ron Mayfield, a former Lamesa school teacher and administrator, are planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Lake Leon Baptist Church near Eastland.
Visitation will follow the service.
Mayfield died on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, following a brief illness with cancer.
Mayfield grew up in Lazbuddie and graduated from Lazbuddie High School in 1968.
After graduating from Texas Tech University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education, Mayfield taught in Loraine, farmed, and then taught in Amherst.
Mayfield came to Lamesa in 1978 as a vocational agriculture teacher. He later served as an assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent in the Lamesa school system. He served as superintendent of the Reagan County ISD in Big Lake from 2000 to 2005 and at Fort Stockton from 2005 to 2009.
Mayfield was named superintendent of the Granbury Independent School District in May of 2009 and held that position until his retirement in 2012.
He obtained a Master of Education degree from Texas Tech University.
While in Granbury he was a member of the Granbury Rotary Club and served on the board of directors of the Granbury Chamber of Commerce.
Among the survivors are his wife of 46 years, Suzan; two children, Jason Mayfield and Melissa Hamor; a sister; and six grandchilden.
