Rev. Corina Salazar
Rev. Corina Salazar, age 65, peacefully departed this life on April 29, 2024, surrounded by her family. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Branon Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joshua Salazar. A burial will follow officiated by Rev. Jesse Salazar at the Dawson County Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Viewing begins Tuesday, April 30, 2024 @ 3:00 p.m. and Wednesday, May 1, 2024 10:00 a.m. Inspirational special services will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2024 and Wednesday, May 1, 2024 @ 7:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home Chapel.
Corina was born on July 25, 1958, in Labor Camp, Texas to Agapito Reyes (A.R.) Alonzo and Eva Ortiz Alonzo. Corina met her best friend, Jesse Salazar, at the age of 13. They fell in love and got married at the age of 15 on January 29, 1973. They celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Corina got to live in various cities and states including: Lamesa, Lubbock, Abernathy as well as Pemberville and Bowling Green, Ohio. Corina worked in various places that included migrant field work starting at the age of 8. Going on to work at the USDA cotton classing, office Gin manager in Patricia, Texas, and Dairy Queen.
Corina came to know Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior in the Spring of 1978. Corina had a passion for Children’s ministry, Women’s ministry, and Missions. Corina was a Media Radio Director at KYMI located at Los Ybanez. Corina then became the owner of Lamesa’s local Christian radio station, KTTT 88.3. Corina was co-pastor alongside her husband at Lidro De Los Valles, Temple Bethel and Vision Worship Center. Corina was the first female minister for Lamesa section of the Assembly of God and later became the Secretary of the section. Corina traveled on missionary trips that included: Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, Peru, Colombia, and multiple trips to Mexico. Corina served on the Joplin Tornado Disaster recovery efforts in Missouri . Corina enjoyed sight-seeing and camping with her family. Her favorite travel destination was Colorado.
Corina was a beautiful wife and with their love story, Corina will be deeply missed by her husband Jesse Salazar of Lamesa and their children Jesse Salazar Jr. of Lubbock, Joseph A. Salazar of Lamesa, Jacob Salazar of Lubbock, Joshua Salazar of Fort Worth, Jessica Salazar of Crowley, Jonathan Salazar, Jessenia Aguayo and her granddaughter Tegan Salazar all of Lamesa, Texas. Including 4 daughters-in-law, a son-in-law, 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Corina is survived by her siblings: Sylvia Hernandez, Bobby “Bear” Alonzo, Otillia Granado, Richard Ortiz all of Lamesa, Texas and Johnny Alonzo of Amarillo, Texas. Corina is preceded in death by her parents, Agapito Reyes (A.R.) and Eva Alonzo; and her brothers Ray Alonzo, Sr. and Reyes (Sonny) Alonzo.
