Margery Lynn Anderson
Margery Lynn Anderson, better known to everyone as Margie, was born on July 5, 1934, to Clark and Laura Banister on their family farm in Wayne, NE. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 21,2024 leaving behind a family that loved her. Margie graduated from Wayne High School in 1952, and she went on to get her teaching certificate at Wayne State College. After graduating with a degree in teaching, she started her first job at a one room schoolhouse in rural Nebraska. While in high school, Margie met the love of her life, Eugene Ray Anderson of Laurel, NE. Margie and Eugene were married at the First Baptist Church of Wayne in 1954 and together they raised a family of five children including Vicky, Kathy, Shirley, Teresa, and Jeff.
After moving from Nebraska to Lamesa, Texas in 1964, Margie was a stay-at-home mom who also taught piano lessons to local youth. In 1972, Margie’s love for children and teaching opened a new door for her as a Head Start teacher. She soon transitioned into the director of Head Start, where she assisted with the expansion of eight Head Start programs in the West Texas area. Margie served 30 years nurturing young minds. In 2002, Margie retired from her position as director and spent her time reading mystery books, watching college football, and baking the best cinnamon rolls, snickerdoodle & chocolate cookies in the world. Everybody loved Margie, and she is credited with an innate ability to welcome anyone who showed up at her door regardless of their situation, culture, or beliefs. Margie had a way of never judging people, and was known for her particular distaste for gossip, her endless wisdom, and her unconditional love. Her first solution to any problem was love and it was evident in every aspect of Margie’s life. This is exemplified by her love for God. She touched the lives of so many by living by His example. She played the piano and the organ at church services, taught Sunday School, and served on numerous committees at Second Baptist Church in Lamesa. Margie will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 53 years, Eugene, her granddaughter Sandi Leigh Warren, and her great grandson Woodrow Neil Williams. Other family members that preceded her in death are parents Clark and Laura Banister, brothers, John Banister, Bill Banister, Don Banister, Hayes Banister, Charles Banister, and her sister, Jean Warren.
She is survived by her children, Vicky and Joe Williams of Duncan, OK. Kathy Smith of Lubbock, TX, Shirley Roberts of Lamesa, TX, Teresa and Jerry Howard of Plains, TX, and Jeff and Janis Anderson of Austin, TX, her sisters Shirley Torres of Albuquerque, NM, and Janet Crosier of Lincoln, NE. She was blessed with 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful for the compassionate care Margie received from the staff of Calvert Home Health and Hospice of Lubbock, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Second Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, furthering education is something Margie felt strongly about.
