Larry David Smith
Funeral service and celebration of life for Larry David Smith, 87, of Gail will be held Monday, September 30, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Gail under the direction and care of Branon Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Gail Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Branon Funeral Home, Sunday, September 29, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Larry passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024 in Wolfforth. He was born on June 09, 1937 in Van Horn, Texas to Rowdy Tom and Elma Clara (Geaslin) Smith. He married Wanda Maye Cunningham on December 20, 1956 and they were married 67 wonderful years.
Larry was a long time resident and farmer in Borden County and was commissioner for 32 years. He was a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Gail.
Larry “Grandad” was loved for his scrambled eggs, story telling of early life and was the #1 fan of the kids and grandkids… never missing a rodeo or sporting event.
Some of his hobbies were RV camping with Wanda and their friends as well as restoring and collecting antique tractors.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Rowdy Tom and Elma Clara Smith; wife, Wanda Maye Cunningham Smith; brothers, Tommy Smith and Jerry Ross Smith; brother-in-law, Kenneth Cunningham; and son-in-law, Kurt Pierce.
He is survived by his children, Perry Smith and wife Kelly of Post, TX., and Kristy Pierce and (late husband Kurt) of Lamesa, TX.; brother-in-law, Ricky Cunningham and wife Sandra of Ranger, TX.; sister-in-law Exa Cunningham of Devol; grandchildren, Emily Stahl, Sterling Smith and wife Holly, Matti Taylor and husband Austin, Kyle Pierce and wife Jade, and Katy Miller and husband Dusty; and great-grandchildren, Grant Stahl, Raeley Taylor, Swayde Smith, Hartlyn Smith, Gemma Pierce, River Pierce, Wilder Pierce, Sunshine Pierce, Jed Miller, Mercer Miller, Baker Miller, and Maevyn Miller.
