Kent McCurley
Services for Alvin Kent (Stumbo) McCurley, 63, of Lamesa, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at St. John Baptist Church, 108 SE 10th Street, in Lamesa.
Services were under the direction of Gonzales Funeral Home.
McCurley died on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at his home in Lamesa. He was born on March 18, 1956 in Lamesa. He graduated from Lamesa High School in 1974, and was named Mr. Tornado.
Considered one of the best athletes to ever graduate from Lamesa High School, was twice named all-state in basketball and helped lead the Golden Tornadoes to a state runner-up finish in 1973. He also was an all-state player in football and was the top scorer on a team that went undefeated before losing in the state semifinals.
He enjoyed sports, dominoes and dancing.
Survivors include a daughter, Camelia Hardaway of San Antonio; a son, Nick Spain of Midland; sisters, Renee Jackson of Odessa and Shanna McCurley of Lamesa; brothers, Harry McCurley of Lubbock, Ricky McCurley of Odessa, Glen McCurley of Lamesa, and Mart Smith of Midland; and mother, Ossie McCurley of Lamesa.
