Johnny M. Garcia

    Catholic Funeral Mass for Johnny M. Garcia, 74, of Lamesa will be held Friday, September 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Rudy Crasta officiating.  Burial will follow to Dawson County Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Branon Funeral Home. Rosary will be said on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.  at Branon Funeral Home Chapel.
    Johnny passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024, in Lamesa, Texas. He was born October 6, 1949, in Goliad, Texas to Ricardo P. and Beatrice (Ybarbo) Garcia. He married Dora Sauseda on June 7, 1969 in Lamesa, they were married for 55 years.
    Johnny attended Lamesa High School till the 9th grade and later joined the United States Army on May 8, 1969. He was a proud veteran who served in the Vietnam War, being honorably discharged on May 7, 1976. He then worked as a farmer in the Dawson County area from 1976 to 1979 and as a mechanic for the Case Company.
    He later joined the Lamesa Police Department as a sergeant before transitioning to the Dawson County Sheriff’s office serving as a deputy then becoming Chief Deputy. He was then elected Sheriff for Dawson County and retired from that position in the year 2000. Johnny founded J & J Construction in 1996, which he ran alongside his son Jamie up until his time of passing.
    He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
    Johnny is survived by his wife Dora Sauseda Garcia of Lamesa; son, Jamie Garcia and wife Lesli of Weatherford; two grandchildren, Gunner Garcia and Reagan Garcia; sister, Evila Lopez and husband Nick of Lamesa; and brother, Richard Garcia, Jr. and wife Judy of Lamesa; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo P. and Beatrice Garcia; sister, Viola Mojica; brother Eddie Garcia; nephews, Ray Mojica, Arthur Mojica; and his in-laws, Juan and Lupe Sauseda.
    The family suggests memorials be made to St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 908 S. 2nd St. Lamesa, Texas 79331.
