Joe Kenneth Roberts was born November 5th 1936 in Lamesa Tx and passed peacefully in his home Oct. 19th, 2024 in Welch Tx at the age of 87. He was a man that didn’t know how to not be working. This love of staying busy started at a young age. He at the age of 19 started in the Oil Field and quickly worked his was up as derrick man on morning tower, he liked it because he was always on top and nothing could fall on him.

He then later moved on to work at the Grain Elevator In Welch for 11years. When he took over ownership of The Mobil Station he operated that for the next 18 years. You could always tell where he had been in the station because a cigarette was left burning. While running the station he was a contract pumper for Uni-Cal. After selling the station He helped his Son Micky pursue his passion of Farming, they started farming, and at the height over 2200 Acres. Thus teaching his grandsons who eagerly went to drive the tractors and 4-wheelers, and learn to fix all things in the Barn. Many spring breaks were spent at Joe’s lake house down at Lake Thomas, were he taught the boys to run a trout line and other forms of fishing along with water Skiing. Usually Joe would ski with his Jeans on right up to the dock, never once dropping his lit cigarette. When He wasn’t at the lake another favorite past time of his was Turkey shoots with his Son Micky and daughter Retta. Memories they will cherish for years to come and pass on to their children. Those who knew Joe will understand that he was just as ornery in dying as he was in life just ask Maretta.
