Jimmy Garrett

Jimmy L. Garrett passed Monday, October 26, 2020, at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, Texas.
Services were held Sunday, November 1, 2020, at the Gail Cemetery in Gail, Texas.
He was born May 6, 1941, to Vernon and Gracie (Eastham) Garrett in Lamesa, Texas. Jimmy was a graduate of Lamesa High School. Jimmy joined the U.S. Marine Corp and was a member of the American Legion. Jimmy married Shirley Currey on March 14, 1977.
He believed in God, often reading his Bible. Jimmy loved John Deere tractors and worked in several locations for John Deere. Vernon and Jimmy had Garrett’s Tractor Supply for many years. He worked for Borden County Schools, maintaining school buses, and then returned to John Deere tractors at Seymour, Texas.
Jimmy loved to hunt, fish, and camp out with his family every chance he got. He loved and had dogs that loved him (and a few cats).
Jimmy always had time to lend an ear to his children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends far and wide. He loved each and everyone with all his heart. He was the sweetest, most mild-mannered, and laid-back man you would ever meet who LOVED the peaceful country life! Jimmy was tough as nails and fought for his life on many occasions, including open heart surgery and two kidney transplants. You could not find a more sensitive, upbeat person even after all he had gone through. He was truly a great man, and he will be deeply missed by his wife, children, family, and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Garrett; one daughter, Jana, and husband Terry Gardner of Lubbock, Texas; three sons, Kelly and wife Becky Garrett of Lubbock, Monty and wife Charlotte Garrett of Borden County, and Justin Levi Garrett of Borden County; twelve beloved grandchildren, 17 beloved great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and first wife, Karen Wright.
He was preceded in death by his mother Gracie and father Vernon, infant brother Eddie Kenneth Garrett, and two sisters, Diane and husband James Hunt and Linda and husband J.R. Eastham, beloved brother-in-law John Dell Barron, mother-in-law Edythe Currey and ex-mother-in-law Freddie Ham.
