Ismael “Smiley” Contreras

   Funeral service for Ismael “Smiley” Contreras, 77, of Lamesa was held Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Church of Nazarene with Pastor Lee Lennon officiating. A burial will follow in Dawson County Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Branon Funeral Home. Viewing was held on Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Monday, January 15, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 9 :00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home Chapel.
    Ismael passed away January 11, 2024, in Amarillo. He was born October 24, 1946, to Juan and Lorenza (Perez) Contreras. He married Lenor Contreras in 2000. He started as a janitor at Medical Arts Hospital, then became a welder for a few years. He then retired from TXDOT. Ismael loved sports and enjoyed watching old western movies and watching his grandkids play sports.
    Ismael is survived by his wife, Lenor Contreras of Lamesa; children, Patti Flores and husband, Mark of Midland and Terry Contreras of Lamesa; step children, Danny Granado and wife, Jackie of Midland, David Granado and wife, Irma of Midland, Belinda Kidd of Edmond, Oklahoma and son in law, Brian Kidd of Yukon, Oklahoma and Tony Granado of Lamesa; sister, Mary Moncallo of Lamesa; brother, Pablino Contreras of Killeen; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Pete Contreras, Salome Contreras, Miguel Contreras, Bernardo Contreras, Joe Contreras, Trinidad “El Negro” Contreras, Dolores Contreras, and Flor Rodriguez.
