Harley Dan Harp
Harley Dan Harp, affectionately known as Dan, passed away in his home on December 3, 2023, at 9:29 a.m. He was surrounded by the love of his life, Patsy, and their three beloved children, Daman, Davette, and Dana.
Born on October 5, 1939, to the proud parents OL Harp Jr. and Vera O’Brien Harp in Lamesa, TX, Dan grew up in the tight-knit community of Welch. He attended Dawson School, graduating in 1958. He was the oldest of three children, with a younger brother, Ned Harp, and a younger sister, Judy Harp Coor.
On June 4, 1960, at the First Baptist Church of Welch, Dan and his high school sweetheart Patsy Fortenberry sealed their love in marriage after dating for four years. Their shared dream of building a family became a reality with the arrival of their three children—Daman, Davette, and Dana. For 50 years, Dan farmed in Welch before retiring. Together, he and Patsy were an inseparable duo who loved to spend time together camping and traveling.
Dan was lovingly known as “Poppy” to his 8 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, whom he and “Momma D” cherished. They kept busy with attending their activities, creating precious memories that will last for generations.
Dan was baptized at First Baptist Church of Welch in April 1948 when he was 9 years old. He was ordained as a deacon on November 4, 1990, in the First Baptist Church of Welch, and he shared his wisdom and faith teaching Sunday School there for most of his adult life.
Dan is survived by his wife, Patsy Harp of Welch; children, Daman Harp and wife Kristi of Keller, Dana Mahan and husband, Marlin of Welch and Davette Ferguson and husband, Kenny of Klondike; grandchildren, Tanner Harp (Aleesa), Taylor Harp, Steeli Morgan (Zac), Brittnee Brandt (Carter), Aubree Stewart (Dane), Seth Mahan (Kristen), Danielle Therwhanger (Colby) and Dustin Ferguson (Katie); and twenty-one great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Judy Harp Coor and Terry Ned Harp.
A Celebration of life to honor Dan will be held on December 5, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Welch with Marlin Mahan and Dustin Ferguson officiating. A private burial will be held before service. Friends and family are also welcome to visit after the service.
