Elizabeth passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019 in Kerrville, Texas surrounded by her family.
She was born June 6, 1920 in Sherman, Texas to Bascomb Sullivan and Julia (Barrett) Watson. She married Doyle Payton November 7,1948. They were married 57 years.
She was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed working alongside Doyle in their business, Permian Geophysical Supply. She was proud of the fact that she even helped load and haul dynamite!
She loved children. She worked in the children’s department and nursery at First Baptist Church for 45 years. She and Doyle loved taking care of the “old people” at church even into their 80’s driving the church bus for many years.
She lived in Sherman, Roaring Springs, San Angelo, Lamesa and Kerrville. She brought joy and laughter to everyone she met. She was compassionate, classy, sassy, funny, loving, beautiful, faithful, hardworking, and spunky. She kept the staff at Brookdale, her home the past five years, on their toes and in stitches. She enjoyed spending time with her boyfriend, Bill the past few years. She so wanted to live to be 100 and asked almost every day if it was her birthday and could we have a party.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Laura Chapman and husband, Doyle of Austin, Ronnie Payton and wife, Joye of Lamesa, Norma Gentry of Kerrville; grandchildren, Lorie Meynig and husband, Jeff, Tina Knight and husband, David, Steve Chapman and wife, Holly, Chance Payton, Jenny Johnson and husband, Mark, and Tyson Gentry and wife, Amanda; great grandchildren, Christopher Meynig and wife, Casey, Courtney Thornton and husband, James, Douglas Meynig and wife, Caroline, Andrew Meynig and wife, Maegan, Payton Cooper and wife, Ashleigh, Paisley Cooper, Price Cooper, Jason Chapman, Lauren Chapman, Ethan Johnson, Cutter Gentry, Anna Johnson, Sawyer Gentry, Aaron Johnson; and great great granddaughter, Estlin Thornton.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Payton; parents, Bascomb and Julia Watson; and brothers, Rannell Watson and wife, Bertha, Thurman Watson and wife, Ruth, and Harry Watson and wife, Frances.
The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church Nursery Fund 801 S. 1st, Lamesa, Texas 79331.
