Dovie Jo Batson

    Services for Dovie Jo Batson, 89, of St. Francisville, LA, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Trinity Memorial Park Chapel in Big Spring, TX, with Charlie Johnson of Wesleyan Grace Church of Seminole officiating.
    Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
    She passed away on March 1, 2023, at Lacour House in New Roads, LA.
    Dovie Jo was born Aug. 5, 1933 in Ackerly, TX.  She attended school in Ackerly and Howard College in Big Spring.  
    She married Gale Batson on Oct. 2, 1952 in Tahoka.  She was a housewife and mother, and was active in the family farming operation.  She attended Ackerly Church of Christ.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren.
    She moved to St. Francisville, LA, in May of 2017.  After a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, she passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.
    Dovie Jo was preceded in death by her parents; Bayless C. and Bevie Brown of Ackerly; a daughter, Gayla Batson of West Virginia; and brothers, Billy Brown of Ackerly and Troy Brown of Hale Center, TX.
    Survivors include her husband, Gale Batson of St. Francisville, LA; daughters, Jody Furlow of St Francisville, LA, and Shanda Hinkle of Corpus Christi, TX; grandson, Cory Furlow and wife Traci of Seminole, TX; and granddaughters, Cari Stultz and husband Jake of San Angelo, and Drew Hinkle of Corpus Christi.; and three great-grandchildren.
