Doris Burleson

    Doris Nevill Burleson passed away Friday, October 7, 2022, in Lamesa. 
    She was born October 21, 1924, in Dawson County on the Mullins Ranch. Her parents were Mirt and Annie Nevill. Doris was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was an absolutely BEAUTIUL AND WISE WOMAN. She lived alone until the age of 93 and enjoyed taking care of her yard, decorating, and taking walks with her loving pets.
    She grew up on the Mullins Ranch and married Ralph Burleson on December 18, 1940, in Lamesa. They were married 40 years, until his death in 1981.
    Doris attended Lamesa High School where she was a cheerleader. Then in 1946 with her eye-catching LOOKS she won the Miss Lamesa beauty pageant. San Angelo Standard Times wrote “A Lamesa beauty with a figure that would turn Betty Grable green with envy was crowned “Miss West Texas.” Doris was the founder and director of the first ACBL Duplicate Bridge Club and became a Life Master in 1988. 
    Doris and her husband, Ralph built a cabin in Ruidoso. They owned and bred quarter horses and never missed a race. She lived in Lamesa most of her life and was involved in the community.
    Doris is survived by her daughters, Sandee Wilson of Lamesa and Barbara Hlavaty and husband, Lance of Lubbock; 4 grandchildren, Marion Johnson and husband, Craig, Justin Wilson and wife, Kendra, all of Lamesa, Hacee Hughes of Lubbock, Hudson Hlavaty of Austin; 7 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren.  
    Doris is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralph Burleson; brother, J.L. Nevill; sister, Roberta Gilmore; and son in law, Ronnie Wilson.
