David Smith

    David Lawrence Smith passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020 at his home in De Kalb, Texas. He was 91.
    David was born December 22, 1928, in Lydia, Texas, to David Lawrence, Jr. and Ola Mae Grigg Smith.  He was a Veterinarian and a retired Lt. Colonel having served in the United States Navy and the Air Force Reserves.  David was a member of the American Legion Post #488 and was of the Catholic faith. 
    He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, David H. “Buster” Smith and Walter Roy Smith.  
    He is survived by his wife, Gail Smith of De Kalb, Texas; three children, Jane Weaver and her husband, Gary of Shoreacres, Texas, Tracey Armer and her husband, Jake of Avery, Texas, and Jean Smith of Midland, Texas; three stepsons, Nic Jackson of Decatur, Arkansas, Case Jackson and his wife Mystal of Boerne, Texas, and Gavin Jackson of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Carolyn Gilbert of Grover, Texas and Margaret Bain of Pittsburg, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Johnn and Molly Meeks of El Paso, Texas; eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and  numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    A Memorial Visitation will be held 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas.
