Darrell Thomas

    Graveside service for Darrell Lloyd Thomas, 83, will be held Friday, February 18, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Dawson County Cemetery with Pastor Tobey Clements officiating. 
    Visitation will be held Friday February 18, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
    Darrell passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022, in Lamesa, Texas. 
    He was born February 19, 1938, in Lamesa, Texas to Lillard Thomas and Myrtle Martha Niblett Thomas. He was a lifetime resident of Lamesa.  He served in the United States Army from August 8, 1961 to August 7, 1967 during the Cold War in the communication lines.  He loved working on the farm, fishing and making everyone smile. He also enjoyed flying planes alongside his pilot friends.  
    Darrell married Retha Lavonne (Adams) Jackson February 14, 2014, in Lamesa.  He brought so much joy to their marriage.  He was very optimistic and always saw the bright side of all situations.  Darrell was very caring, helped all those in need and related to people in hardship times. Darrell loved animals and wanted to help them all.
    Darrell is survived by his wife, Retha Lavonne Thomas of Lamesa; daughter, Debbie Thomas Grigsby; sister, Jonell Newton of Lamesa, who cared for him most of his life; three grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 
    Darrell is preceded in death by his parents; brother L.D. Thomas; daughter, Denise Beard; sisters, Eulus Damron and Ann Patterson.
