Bill Hart
Bill Hart, 90, of New Braunfels, TX., went to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior on March 19, 2022.
He was born in Lamesa, Texas on January 9, 1932. Bill grew up and went to school in Lamesa and spent most of his work and retirement years in Lubbock.
Bill grew up in the great depression and World War II; money was tight but there was always plenty of love. Joining the Cub Scouts at 9 years old he went on to become an Eagle Scout, and later served as a Scout Master. Bill was a talented athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball through high school.
On December 23, 1950, Bill married Peggy Bradford, his high school sweetheart and soulmate. He went to work for Furr’s Supermarket and after a few years moved to Lubbock. Furr’s was an up-and-coming retail grocery chain and Bill ran several different stores including Furr’s Family Center located at 34th St. and Quaker. His later years with Furr’s he worked as the head non food buyer and manager of El Paso Wholesale.
He was a member of the Church of Christ and always active in the Lubbock community. He spent 7 years in the Texas National Guard, served in the Lubbock Lions Club and coached his sons in Pony and Babe Ruth baseball. He was also a 3rd degree Mason and 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.
Retiring from Furr’s in 1991, he started a project to research the genealogy of the Hart family, going back hundreds of years. When that project was finished he built a workshop in the backyard and started building decorative bird houses. Soon his creativity came forth and he was building bird house replicas of the Alamo, Spanish Missions, churches and more. Vacation time was spent with Peggy going on cruises to Alaska, Panama and the Caribbean.
