Anita Cano

Our beloved Anita Acosta Cano, age 74, really wasn’t done yet.  She had many more things to see, places to go, and people to visit, but she passed away on Mother’s Day, May 8, 2022, at Baylor Scott & White Heart Hospital in Plano, Texas, after surgical complications.
She was born June 26, 1947 in Karnes City, Texas.  Anita was married to Jesus Cano, Jr., for 23 years and widowed on Nov. 9, 1996.  She said she’d never find anyone like him.
She was lovingly surrounded and survived by four children, Loraine Sánchez (Oscar), Jesse Cano (Jessica), Sonia Cano (Julio), Lance Cano; and ten grandchildren, Miranda Sánchez, Gianna Sánchez, Zana Perfecto, Aracely Cano, Desmond Perfecto, Galileo Perfecto, Adriel Cano, Oscarito Sanchez, Zachariah Rodriguez and Anthony Rodriguez; and 5 siblings, Mary Mojica, Lydia Gonzales, Yolanda Flores, Edward Acosta and Ramiro Acosta; and her dog, Aries.
Anita’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandkids dancing, playing games, taking walks, singing and just loving them.  She loved to cook for others who would come to visit her and delighted in fine eating, fine dining and fancy restaurants.  She loved to travel to far-off places like Italy, Mexico City, Cancun, Cozumel, Cuba, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Miami, Seattle and so many others.  She also loved spending time with her best friends and siblings shopping, telling jokes and making others laugh.  She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed volunteering in the local hospital with the Pink Ladies in our community.  Anita had a very big heart and loved to serve others any way she could.  She was a huge spirit that filled every room she entered.  And she’ll be greatly missed by all who enjoyed her beautiful smile that would light up her entire face.
Services honoring Anita’s beautiful life will be held as follows:
    Thursday, May 12: Viewing 4:00-7:00
Friday, May 13, 2022: Viewing 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., Rosary Prayer Service starts at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service
A Catholic funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Chacko Thadathil officiating.  Burial committal will follow to the Dawson County Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home.  To send your condolences online please visit www.Gonzalesfuneralnet.com.
