Jay Coleman
Graveside service for Jay Coleman, 94, of Lamesa will be held Monday, January 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Dawson County Cemetery. Memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Medley and Tim Sherrill officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Branon Funeral Home.
Jay passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 26, 1930, to Joshua Burton Coleman and Claudia Minter Coleman in Gary, Texas. He married Floy Lee Jenkins on April 20, 1954, in Clovis, New Mexico. He served as Sgt. in U.S. Army during the Korea War from 1948-1952. He was owner and operated Mesa Irrigation alongside his son and family since July 1977 and began farming in Dawson County in the 80s.
Jay was a Master Mason in Yellow house lodge and a deacon at First Baptist Church as well as involved with the Lamesa Gideons and Lamesa Optimist Club. He loved to fish with his buddies, watch the Sandhills cranes while checking fields but his favorite of all was hoeing his cotton each morning before work or skipping work to hoe more cotton. He was an avid Texas Tech Red Raider and an even bigger fan of whatever activity his grandkids and great grandkids were doing.
Jay is survived by his wife of 70 years, Floy Lee Coleman; children, Deborah Lynn Coleman Rials of Austin and Terry Wayne Coleman and wife Risa of Lamesa; four grandchildren, Bobby Rials and wife Dawn from Austin; Bralie Hendon and husband Brent From Welch; Brenay Kimbrough and husband Kirby from Lamesa; Kelton Coleman and wife Kristen From Wellman; thirteen great grandchildren Lisa, Robert, Jeremy, Tommy, Payzli, Graham, Chloe, Kross, Krey, Jerzye, Kallyn, Collier, Kenzlyn; and two great great grandchildren; Jayden and Keegan. He is preceded in death by his parents; Joshua and Claudia Coleman, stepmom, Gladys Coleman; siblings Joyce Fulfur, Minnie Joe Ray, Billy Wayne Coleman. Survived by Maxine Hartley, Elaine Hartley, and Becky Hicks.
Pallbearers to honor him are Kelton Coleman, Kross Coleman, Krey Coleman, Brent Hendon, Graham Hendon, and Kirby Kimbrough.
