Those interested in attending correctional officer training can go online at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s (TDCJ) website at tdcj.texas.gov.The next training academy session starts Oct. 23 at the TDCJ’s Smith Unit just outside Lamesa.Both full-time and parttime positions are available at the unit. Full healthcare and retirement benefits are available.Applicants will need to submit their Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers and a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) degree. If applicants served in the U.S. military, they will also need to supply their DD-214 documents.The prison unit is also looking for a new maintenance supervisor.
