Jerry Don Pearce
Jerry Don Pearce, of Abilene, formerly of Lamesa, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024
after a brief illness.
Jerry was born in Anson, Jones County, Texas on February 9, 1937 to Emmett Addison Pearce and Ola Foster Pearce. He was the youngest of six children.
The Pearce Family moved to the Union Community in Dawson County when Jerry was only a few months old. They lived in chicken-houses until Emmett and his boys could build their house. They lived and farmed there until moving into town in Lamesa in 1953. Jerry graduated from Lamesa High School in 1955 and began work in Lamesa for a variety of companies before
eventually beginning work as a staff member for the City of Lamesa, where he would retire in 1999.
Jerry Don married Martha Frances Cole on June 24, 1960 in Anson. They were married 64 years. They had two sons, and eventually six grand-children and four great-grandchildren. He
loved his family more than anything else in the world. Raising a family in Lamesa Jerry enjoyed camping and fishing weekends at Lake Thomas and supporting his sons in all their activities.
Jerry was a hard-working man whose word was as good as a written contact. Although he did not attend college, he worked to make certain his two sons both graduated from Texas Tech
University. After retirement he enjoyed daily games of golf at Plains Fairways with Lynn Ranson. He and Martha traveled and enjoyed their grandkids with backyard cookouts and rides on his golf cart.
In 2002 Jerry Don and Martha moved to Abilene to be more centrally located in Texas for their family. Again, Jerry found a golfing group and enjoyed playing several days each week. Family visits and times with a growing group of grandkids and then great grandkids were his joy.
Jerry trusted his life to Jesus Christ as his Savior at Royal Ambassador camp at Circle Six Baptist Ranch when he was just a boy. His life of responsibility, faithfulness and integrity bore evidence of his Christian faith.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Martha, of Abilene. He is survived by two sons, Damon, and his wife Bonnie or Abernathy, and Eric of Lavon. He is survived by six grandchildren: Paul Pearce and his wife Amanda of Ponder, Meghan Wall and her husband Chris of Fayetteville, Georgia. Jacob Pearce and his wife Devin of Princeton, Emily Pearce of Abilene, Brittany
Peterson and her husband Brandon of Lavon and Erin Pearce of Lubbock. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Eisley and Harrison Pearce, and Lincoln Lee Wall.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to a favorite charity.
