It may not feel like it, but Dawson County has the third highest Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) ratings in the state.Fire department and county officials rely on the KBDI numbers to determine whether it is wise to install a ban against outdoor burning. That ban probiting outside fires lessens the chances of grassland and wildfires.Each county in the state is rated from zero to 800 based upon their area’s precipitation, dry vegetation and moisture levels.Dawson County’s KBDI was at 575 as of Tuesday. The number increased by 61 points within the past two weeks.“It’s jumping 60 points at a time,”
