Graveside services for Dixie Oliver Davis, 84, of Lamesa, will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Lamesa Memorial Park with Rensay Davis officiating. Burial is under the
direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.
Dixie passed away in the early hours of the morning on Monday, November 9, 2020, at University Medical Center in Lubbock County. She was born on December 15, 1935 in Lamesa, Texas to Kirby and Lela Oliver, the third of their five children. She married the love of her life Clyde Doris Davis on January 27, 1962 in Sparenberg, Texas. The two had four children together
and were married until they walked through the gates of heaven. Dixie’s love for farming ran deep within her, but she worked as a homemaker and life insurance agent for the majority of her adult life. Then in 2009 she returned to farming with her two sons, Rensay and Kelby, at the Oliver Farm just 6 miles east of Welch. She loved her family’s farm immensely. She enjoyed spending time with her family at their lake house on Inks Lake and
some of her favorite memories of raising her four children, are there, with her four siblings and parents. Dixie was an excellent baker, as she learned from her mother, Lela Oliver, who was notorious for her famous fried apricot pies. Dixie loved sweets almost as much as she loved her
country, she always had candy on-hand to share and enjoy with her grandchildren. She loved her grandchildren dearly and cherished making valuable memories with them which always included generous amounts of laughter. Dixie loved Jesus and worked out her salvation daily. She made sure to share Jesus’ word with those she met and always offered her wisdom to anyone who needed it. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Welch for most of her senior adult years.
Survivors include her children: sons David Davis of Arlington, Texas and Rensay Davis and wife Suzanne of Wichita Falls, Texas and daughter Staci Davis Mathes of Wichita Falls, Texas;
grandchildren Corey Davis, Dakota Davis, Molly Schaffner, Mitchell Davis, McKenzie Davis-Leal, Miranda Greathouse, Daniel Mathes, Joanna Mathes, Jillian Mathes, Jenalise Mathes,
Joyalexis Mathes, Dawson Mathes, Davon Mathes, Deckland Mathes, Mika Hopkins, Reagan Davis, Kaylea Davis, and Riley Davis; and great-grandchildren Hunter Crawford, Haze Oliver Schaffner, Honey Anne Schaffner, Emma Schaffner, Savannah Leal, Marshall Mathes, Emma Mathes, and Taylor Marie Hopkins
Dixie is preceded in death by her parents; her late husband, Clyde Davis; a beloved son, Kelby Davis; a granddaughter, Mallory Grace Davis; a niece, Rhonda Jones; sisters, Jo Ann Oliver Jones and Sandra Oliver Carruth; and brothers, Floyd Oliver and Layton Oliver.
