Halloween Community Events

Before venturing off to Trunk or Treat on the downtown square Halloween Day, drop by Medical Arts Hospital for an early adventure on the spookiest time of the year.

The hospital’s chief executive officer, Freddy Olivarez, informed Dawson County Hospital District board members Tuesday about plans for staff to put on the first “Trick or Treat Trail” on the hospital grounds.

The event, filled with treats, games and prizes, begins at 3:30 p.m. and lasts until 5 p.m. in the hospital’s community room at 2200 N. Bryan Ave.

The timing is perfect. The community’s annual Trunk or Treat celebrations, bringing out hundreds of costumed trick-or-treaters, begins at 5:30 p.m. and lasts until 7:30 p.m. on the downtown square.

Trunk or Treat features car owners distributing goodies from the trunks of their vehicles. The party, hosted by the Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce, also comes with a children’s costume contest and a Lamesa Economic Development Corporation sponsored business decorating contest.

Even medical staff will be there on the square after joining in the hospital’s Trick or Treat Trail event.

“We’re going to post the flyers (advertising the Halloween festivities on hospital grounds) here soon and get it out to the community,” said Sara Del Busto, hospital executive assistant.

“We’re excited to have them (trickor- treaters) on site and welcome to the hospital. And they will be able to see us at Trunk or Treat.”

The hospital’s celebrations includes the Candy Corn Toss, the Candy Corn Bowling and an assortment of games.

“We welcome all kids. It includes our hospital staff, their kids and grandkids and the community kids,” Del Busto said.

Entries into the three Trunk or Treat downtown events had until Friday to let their intentions known to organizers.

Dawson County Public Library (DCPL) staff aren’t doing the pumpkin decorating contest they’ve done in years past. Instead, staff members and their vehicle will be decked out during Trunk or Treat in the theme of “ Charlotte’s Web,” a children’s book by E.B. White.

The library’s Board of Library Teens (BOLT) members are hosting a cake walk beside the DCPL vehicle. The cost is $1 per person to play.
