Anita Sanchez was an iconic fixture in town. Everybody knew her. You could always see her walking along the roadways and sidewalks on her way to anywhere.When Sanchez died around 7:15 a.m., Sept. 11 on S. Bryan Ave. after being hit by a vehicle driven by a mother on the way to drop her children at school, it was the community and her friends who pitched in to help with the funeral costs.She died at the scene, just three days away from her 77th birthday.The casket she was buried in and the plot where she lies were all donated.
