Bertha Fretwell

    Funeral services for Bertha Fretwell, 83, of Lamesa, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 11, 2023 at Branon Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Keith Clower officiating. A burial will follow at Dawson County Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Inspirational service will be held September 10, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home Chapel.
    Bertha passed away September 6, 2023, in Lamesa, Texas surrounded by her family. 
    Bertha Rosales Fretwell was born March 25, 1940, in Piedras Negras, Mexico to Jose Rosales and Isidra Plata de Rosales.  
    Bertha was married to Ramon Vidal Sr. for 38 years with whom she had seven children. In the year 2001 God brought Gene Fretwell into her life. They were married on September 29, 2001, at which time the two families became one. Gene was the biggest blessing in Bertha’s life and was very thankful to God for him.  
    Bertha served the Lord in all aspects of her life. She enjoyed being a missionary for 16 years. Cooking was her way of bringing her family together. It would bring joy to her heart to have her home filled with family and laughter.  
    Bertha  was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene Fretwell; parent, Jose and Isidra Rosales; sister, Catalina Maritnez; and Gene’s daughter, Vicki Fretwell. Bertha is survived by her children, Lupe Vela and Joe, Ramon Vidal and Lupe, Ruben Vidal, Rosa Vidal, Fernando Vidal and Yolanda, David Vidal and Kathleen, and Andi Adams and Shane; siblings, Rosenda Arreola and Richardo and Jose Luis Rosales and Ana Maria; Gene’s children, Kathy Husie and , David Fretwell and Juanita, Welch Fretwell and Angela; 24 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great  great  grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
